Modern laser eye treatments at a glance
SMILE method: the next generation of laser eye surgery
High precision. Minimally invasive. Safe.
The SMILE method (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is the third generation laser eye procedure: minimally invasive, particularly pain-free and safe. The corneal tissue is only affected minimally and at the same time the Zeiss Femtosecond VisuMax® Laser makes a precise correction possible.
- Minimally invasive – the procedure barely affects the stability of the cornea or the tear duct
- Pain-free, gentle and safe
- Comfortable and quick
- No flap
- Heals quickly
- may be used with dry eyes / a thin corneah
- Sport, driving and working can be resumed the following day
Femto-LASIK: laser treatment with a flap
A tried and tested laser eye technique – precise and safe
Femto-LASIK is a further development of the LASIK method. LASIK generally means a laser eye treatment, which works with a corneal flap. With the aid of a high-precision Femtosecond laser, Femto-LASIK stands for a safe and pain-free technique.
- More safety and greater precision with the Femtosecond laser
- Incision complications are minimized in comparison with the traditional LASIK
- A quick and pain-free procedure
- Suitable for short-sightedness and long-sightedness, as well as astigmatism
LASEK / PRK: laser eye treatment with no incision
if LASIK is not possible
PRK is the first generation of laser eye treatments. It has been used in practice since 1988 and was further refined over the first few years into the LASEK procedure. This method is suitable for treating those types of defective vision, where for various reasons a LASIK or SMILE procedure would not be appropriate.
- a thin cornea
- specific eye conditions or a family history of these
- scarring of the cornea
- sports with direct physical contact
Laser eye treatments in comparison
The Cabinet de Chirurgie Réfractive offers you as a patient various surgical procedures using lasers, which – depending on the results of the preliminary examination and the condition of the eye – could be used as part of a laser eye operation. The SMILE method is used in over 80% of cases. It is the laser eye method for the next generation, as it works without a flap, unlike the classic LASIK or even Femto-LASIK. The best treatment method for you individually can only be determined following a comprehensive preliminary examination and a personal consultation with one of our eye experts. The best thing would be to give us a ring and arrange an appointment.
